Charlie covering his ears
Two annoying girls moved into the apartment above me.
I'm forced to hear every dumb thing they say.
These are my letters to them.

“She was a major buzz kill talking about death and war. I wanted to be like, relax, it’s a holiday weekend!” Happy Memorial Day.

  1. Mit says:

Sadly this is probably what the majority of Americans think.

  2. Leila says:

Was this at a Pre-Memorial Day Party they went to?

    • Mit says:

People have Memorial day parties all weekend long. I even overheard a lady yesterday complaining about her neighbor inviting her to a bbq on Monday. She couldn’t go because how was she supposed to get drunk if she worked the next day?! Sadly this wasn’t some 20 year old blond bimbo, but was a grown woman who looked to be in her 40s.

  3. Morthos says:

Oh dear. While I admit I get Veteran’s day and Memorial day swapped up, I have never made this egregious of an error.

  4. Jillian says:

And now everyone can admit that this weekend is spent either a. away for the weekend at the beach or b. at someone’s house for a BBQ and fireworks.

  5. Sarah Dani says:

Charlie, where do the girls live? I want to throw eggs at them and let them know about the sacrifice our military has made for us. My husband (a United States Marine) would be so annoyed.

  6. kerkunie says:

Relax, sure, but while you’re at it hit the history books ugh…

  7. Misty says:

Oh dear. Charlie, perhaps you should leave a printout about why we have Memorial Day outside their door. I can’t even believe them sometimes…
(Btw- never introduced myself, I’m Misty, can I be part of the family?)

    • Alicia says:

Charlie’s taking too long. Since I play a very active role in the DGAM fam, I think it’s safe to give you permission to be in our family.

  8. Tyler says:

I live in a townhouse with really thin walls, and the couple who live next door to me (pretty much the equivalent of “Cathy and Claire”), had a similar conversation this morning. it’s the thing that woke me up, because that then led to a fight. I then hit my head against the wall for a sum of two hours. You are not alone!

  9. Maddie says:

I think my sister said the same thing this morning…she’s ten.

  10. Mephistopheles says:

I love their sensitivity, so starkly absent and uneducated.
Charlie do you know if they had an education?

  11. Alex says:

I’m going to take it that this is the American equivalent of Remembrance Day. And the GAMs reaction doesn’t surprise me at all.

    • Mephistopheles says:

I believe so except theirs isn’t on the 11th of November.

      • Jillian says:

Our 11th November is Veteran’s day, which honors all veterans. Memorial day, in particular, is remembering and honoring those who gave their lives. Just a wee difference between the days.

  12. Charlotte says:

i think its actually sad we americans refer to this as, a “holiday”

    • Lynne says:

We get work off for it, so people use it as an excuse to get drunk and be patriotic. It is unfortunate, but that’s America for you.

    • P says:

      Definition of HOLIDAY

      1
      : holy day
      2
: a day on which one is exempt from work; specifically : a day marked by a general suspension of work in commemoration of an event

  13. Imani M says:

    *sigh*…..

I was actually thinking that the girls moght say something nice about memorial day….

at least maybe saying how they had great sex with a soldier today…..

of course i wasnt too surprised to them say that because alot of our youth and adults think the same way….

  14. U.N.Owen says:

But this is the way people react in almost every country on every federal/government holiday. Because sooner or later, that day turns into a holiday.

  15. Laurie says:

Send them a couple of copies of War is A Force That Gives Us Meaning and throw in some Hooked On Phonics workbooks.

  16. Rebekah says:

I wish I had the luxury of being this stupid.

  17. Linda says:

Actually, I am an American living in Canada right now and we celebrate it here with fireworks and prayers for our fallen and living soldiers. Maybe I am different because every generation is in Marines, Military, Navy, Airforce, etc., but I feel that we have to remember them as they are the people that have given us the freedon to have this speech and outlet to each other all over the world.
I know some of you are going to say that they didn’t have the internet back then but you know, what they did for our freedom led to our ways of life and freedoms that we take for granted. That is all. Hoo Rah!

  18. Kristen says:

Do they get mad when people talk about Jesus on Christmas too? :) Aye…

  19. CookiesVs.Cupcakes says:

    *facepalm*

  20. Sara E. says:

God, I’d really like to slap those girls. But unfortunately, a lot of Americans forget that Memorial Day is about honoring those who have served our country. To them, it’s all about yard sales, getting drunk and going to the beach.
